Week 9 Pickups: Trades on Trades on Trades

After one of the most active trade deadlines in recent memory, the waiver wire has a few new options this week. Did you keep up with all the transactions?

Kelvin Benjamin is now a Buffalo Bill. Jay Ajayi is an Eagle. And Jimmy Garoppolo is now the soon-to-be starter in San Francisco. But, most notably, Ajayi’s trade means we have a new lead running back in Miami between Kenyan Drake and Damien Williams. My preference would be to own Drake, but Williams could end up having more value if the Dolphins play from behind all season as the passing down back.

While Ajayi may not see a huge bump in value and could actually see reduced volume, he is sure to benefit from a more productive and more consistent offense. He’s still valuable to owners.

The latest Zeke news points to him missing the next six games, at last. Opinions vary, but the consensus seems to be that Darren McFadden would get the first crack at carries.

My straw poll found most prefer DMC, but Alfred Morris and Rod Smith are both sneaky adds that you can get a much lower price.

Rumor followers might want to stash Josh Gordon, since he seems to have life again in the NFL with the news that he’s meeting with the NFL, but that’s a long, long shot for fantasy relevance this season.

And Calvin Johnson was the source of rumors for a short time before the trade deadline came and went without any action.

Your better wide receiver stashes are, in this order:

  • JuJu Smith-Schuster, who “emerged” for the Steelers with increased usage and targets last week.
  • Corey Davis, who should return to the field soon for the Titans
  • And Robby Anderson, who’s getting decent enough usage for the Jets even if his scores will be in garbage time more often than not

Good luck in Week 9!
