Week 4 Pickups: You’re my boy, Alfred Blue

We just can’t catch a break, can we? This week we had another rash of injuries. Those injuries combined with the first bye weeks will make the waiver wires pretty active this week. At least we have a few new stars like our boy Blue.

Let’s jump right into my list.

  • Alfred Blue
  • Lorenzo Taliaferro
  • Andrew Hawkins
  • Marvin Jones
  • Kirk Cousins
  • Chargers D/ST

With all the injuries, I’m trying to keep things tight this week. Many of your replacements, unfortunately, have mostly been scrambled for already with Knile Davis and Donald Brown on a lot of rosters after injuries from last week.

Alfred Blue was a surprise start last week as Arian Foster didn’t go. He could be in line for more starts against a favorable schedule for a running team. He’s worth 10-25% of your FAAB, depending on whether you own Arian Foster or are in a RB-starved league.

Lorenzo Taliaferro is next on my list. He’s in the mix for the Ravens’ starting job after his standout performance in Week 3. The coaching staff still seems to want Bernard Pierce to have his chance here, but if Pierce can’t stay healthy or generally proves ineffective once again, Taliaferro is the running back you want to own. He deserves a 10-20% bid in FAAB.

Andrew Hawkins has quietly been the guy in the Browns passing game. He’s on a bye this week, but if no one has scooped him up yet, you should. He can probably be added for less than 10% since most of your league will be looking for immediate starters.

On that note, don’t forget about Marvin Jones, who should return after the Bengals’ bye this week. He should quickly jump ahead of Mohamed Sanu on the depth chart and provide value in the Bengals’ rejuvenated offense. He’s a 5% stash bid for me.

If you need a receiver to start this week, take a look at Jeremy Kerley, Allen Robinson emerging for the Jags, or Jordan Matthews as a desperation play in an Eagles’ offense with plenty of options.

Kirk Cousins had a huge day in Week 3 and could have a few more of the same since the Washington coaching staff won’t rule out him starting the rest of the season. He has a tougher matchup this week against the Giants, but he’s worth a 5% stash if you need QB help down the road.

And if you are streaming defenses, take a look at the San Diego Chargers D/ST. They face the Jaguars for Blake Bortles first start followed by the Jets, Raiders, and Chiefs. You could sit on the San Diego D/ST points for the next four weeks. That’s worth getting if you have no other reason to use a waiver claim or if you are streaming defenses.

Good luck in Week 4.
